MyNigeria has gotten a copy of the sexual harassment petition filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan which details how the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, allegedly made sexual advances at her.
Natasha submitted the petition on Wednesday but it was struck out by the lawmakers on technicality grounds because it disregarded a rule on the signature a petition is supposed to carry amid others.
In the petition, Natasha detailed how her debacle with Akpabio started.
“On or about the 8th of December 2023, I, in the company of my husband, Chief Emmanuel Uduaghan, visited the residence of the Respondent in Akwa Ibom State," she said.
Kogi Central lawmaker said the Senate president made passes at her, asking her to “spend quality moment” with him despite being in the company of her husband,
She also alleged that Akpabio invited her over to his residence on the grounds of wanting to discuss legislative matters, only for him to tell her that“You know I am the Senate President; I will give you whatever you want, all you have to do is make me happy.
“Senator Natasha, you can enjoy a whole lot if you take care of me and make me happy, the statement further quoted Akpabio”
She said when she refused his advances, Akpabio then removed her motion for the Ajaokuta Steel Company from the Senate’s Order Paper. She also accused him of orchestrating her removal as Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Local Content.
She also alleged in the petition that Akpabio once called her a nightclub girl, though he later apologized.
Natasha then referenced a case of sexual harassment allegation levelled against Akpabio by Dr. Joi Nunieh, the former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in 2020.
Meanwhile, Akpabio has denied the allegation despite receiving the petition against him which has now been dismissed by the Senate.
Addressing his colleagues, he said, “I was raised very well by my late single mother, and I have always upheld respect for women.”
