Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has described Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand as a clown.
This was after Ferdinand criticized Carragher for belittling the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Carragher belittled the tournament after Liverpool's 2-0 win against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.
During the match, Mohammed Salah delivered an assist and a goal, earning him praises from pundits around the world.
However, speaking as a pundit on Sky Sports, Carragher expressed the believe that Salah has to win a major tournament in the calibre of the World Cup or Champions League to be acknowledged for Ballon d'Or.
This was seen as an attack on the importance of the AFCON by fellow pundit on the show, Daniel Sturridge.
Reacting, Ferdinand said: “I understand what Jamie’s saying but I don’t agree with it. That’s the majority’s fault and its not right. I think the federations like FIFA need to make sure they implement language around AFCON so it equals the Euros and the Copa America.
“Jamie is right in what he is saying. If Salah won AFCON that would have no bearing on anyone when they vote for the Ballon d’Or, which is absolutely wrong.”
However, Carragher has hit back at Ferdinand over his take.
“I didn’t say that you clown.
“Stop playing to the gallery like you always do,” Carragher commented on the Instagram post.
