The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has said that posterity will judge the North East Development Commission (NEDC) favourably for going beyond infrastructure development to investing in education and green technology through the Accelerated Senior Secondary Education Programme (ASSEP).

He described ASSEP as a true game changer in this age and time, emphasizing that education is the greatest equalizer, enabling even the son of a peasant to become a celebrated icon.

Shettima made these remarks on Thursday during a meeting with the NEDC management team, who briefed him on the progress of the ASSEP project at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said, “I want to commend the management of the NEDC, the ministry, and, of course, Dr. Masha for their outstanding work in promoting ASSEP. There are two key areas where the North East Development Commission’s commitment will be remembered by posterity.

“Yes, intervention in infrastructure is important, but ASSEP, along with potential investments in green technology, will truly transform the landscape.”

The Vice President also praised the generative platforms introduced by ASSEP, such as Virtual Reality (VR) headsets, stating that they play a significant role in “revolutionizing the learning experience, offering numerous benefits for students, educators, and institutions by enhancing engagement and motivation.”
