West Bromwich Albion defender Semi Ajayi has returned from injury ahead of Nigeria's upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

The 31-year-old returned to action as West Brom's U-21 side faced Newcastle United on Monday, February 10.

Ajayi played the entirety of the first half as the Baggies beat the Magpies 2-1.

The central defender had been sidelined for over four months after sustaining a hamstring injury in October during West Brom's Sky Bet Championship clash against Cardiff.

The player is expected to return to full fitness in the coming weeks, making him available for Nigeria's World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

This comes as good news for new Super Eagles gaffer Eric Chelle as he prepares his squad for the two crucial encounters.

Nigeria will resume their World Cup qualifiers campaign on March 21 against Rwanda and take on Zimbabwe four days later.
