The former Senator representing Bayelsa East, Ben Murray-Bruce, has praised an officer of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr A.J Ohikhueme, for returning dollars he found to the owner.
According to Murray-Bruce who shared the story because "integrity is a virtue that should always be celebrated," the incident involved a friend who was departing Nigeria.
"At the airport, he unknowingly left some dollars tucked inside his passport and handed it over at the counter. Given that the SSS officers usually work out of direct sight, this money could have easily gone unnoticed.
"But in a remarkable display of honesty, the officer, Mr A.J Ohikhueme immediately pointed it out and returned it. In Nigeria today, where such acts are increasingly rare, this kind of integrity deserves recognition. I have personally forwarded this to the NSA’s attention because good people should not only be acknowledged but also encouraged.
"To the officer in question—thank you for upholding the values of trust and integrity. You are a shining example of the Nigeria we aspire to build.
"And to my Nigerian brothers and sisters out there, please stop insulting and expecting the worst from Nigeria all the time, there are good people in this country," he said.
