A man named Onyeka Awo Eze who hails from Ebonyi State but resides in Imo State, Owerri, has shared the heartbreaking story of how he lost his wife and baby due to the negligence of some doctors at a hospital.

Doctors at Lebechi Hospital in Owerri was accused of watching a YouTube video on how to perform a surgery on a woman bleeding during labour.

Eze explained that when they arrived at the hospital, the midwife informed him that they needed to perform an operation on his wife due to the bleeding.

The midwife called another doctor to assist with the operation. While in the operation room, the doctor, appeared to be inexperience, brought out his phone to watch a YouTube video on how to perform the surgery. Tragically, both the wife and baby died during the procedure.

Narrating the incident, Eze said, “When I brought my wife to the hospital, when she was in labour, the doctor said they needed to carry out an operation on her because she was bleeding. We were in the theatre, when she called another doctor to come and operate on her. They were watching a phone, looking how to operate from YouTube. They were watching YouTube to operate on my wife. While doing that, I lost my wife and the baby.”

Human rights activist, Comrade Ajemba Stanley, upon hearing the incident, travelled from Delta State to Owerri to support the grieving husband.

Stanley accompanied Eze to the Imo Police Command to report the case as murder, with the goal of arresting the doctors responsible and preventing similar incidents from happening in the future.

During a visit to the hospital, Stanley observed unsanitary conditions in the facility where the sugery took place.

Stanley also mentioned that the hospital owner and nurses have been arrested, but the doctors involved in the surgery have absconded.

This tragic event raise concerns among Nigerians, who have taken to social media to express their thoughts on the matter.

jonathan.justina1: How can u experiment with someone's life play with a life like pack of cards? Dis is inhumane

onyi_best_girl: All ds nurse yekpa sef….Many of them are not registered and well trained nurses…Nna ehn, please take me to another country

iam_maspero: If they are really licensed doctors, their licenses have to be withdrawn from them first. This is totally unacceptable having and breeding quacks as professionals

lucynneomaofficial: They are myrdérer. How can they open YouTube to learn how to operate a human being?

yvonne_bigbrother_titans: People don’t understand what is happening in Nigeria yet. All the brains are gone, doctors are leaving every single day, our politicians are busy pocketing the money they should pump into healthcare and we are all watching. I read that only about 100 internal medicine consultants are remaining and currently under federal government employment , do you know what that means? Let’s pray not to need specialist care cos na ticktock dem go use soon.

korion_girl: How can this be a hospital??

nevobasialexander: After Federal government will be saying that they have good medical facilities meanwhile take a good look at this, what a shame may her soul rest in peace
