Nigerian international Victor Boniface was arguably one of the hottest topics in the January transfer window after his move to Al Nassr hit a snag.
The 24-year-old, who was close to completing his move to the Saudi Pro League, saw the deal come crashing down after Al Nassr opted to sign Colombian international Jhon Duran instead.
Amid the disappointment, Boniface was thrust into the starting lineup by manager Xabi Alonso in Bayer Leverkusen's Bundesliga fixture against Hoffenheim despite spending the last two months on the sidelines.
The Super Eagles striker seized the opportunity with aplomb, firing his side into the lead just 15 minutes into the match and eventually guiding the German champions to a 3-1 victory.
Sharing his thoughts on the circumstances surrounding Boniface's failed move to Riyadh, Lukas Hradecky commended the former Royal Union SG man for how he navigated through the challenges.
"He’s been frequently injured and hasn’t earned much in his career so far. So, from an economic standpoint, yes, it was a lot of money," Hradecky said, as quoted by Tag24.
"It’s remarkable how quickly he adapted. That’s the best thing you can offer to both the club and yourself. He has the respect of all of us," Hradecky added.
