Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode, has reacted to the judgment of the court following his charges of forgery.

Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe of the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos, on Tuesday, February 4, discharged and acquitted Fani-Kayode of a 12-count charge bordering on procurement of a “fabricated” medical report and use of the false document.

The judge ruled that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) lacked the constitutional power to try the former Minister for the offence, adding that the allegations were not an economic crime, and the evidence and witnesses failed to link him to the offences as well.

Recall that the anti-graft agency had accused Fani-Kayode of procuring one Dr Ogieva Oziegbe to issue a fake medical report, which he allegedly tendered before the Federal High Court.

The EFCC had also claimed that the defendant, on October 11, 2021, in Kubwa, Abuja, connived with Dr Ogieva Oziegbe to execute a document titled ‘MEDICAL REPORT ON Olufemi Fani Kayode 60 YEARS/MALE/HOSP. NO.00345’ and purported the same to have been issued by Kubwa General Hospital.

Expressing his joy at the ruling, Fani-Kayode took to social media to thank God and share his thoughts.

He wrote, “It was a great day and a great victory in court today.

I have been discharged of the last set of criminal charges proferred against me by the EFCC and I give thanks to God.

Finally, after 18 long and difficult years of constant and consecutive criminal cases in no less than four separate courts, I have won the last one and it is all over. After 18 years I finally have my life back and can focus on my family and loved ones.

Like Rev. Martin Luther King once said I can finally scream the following words from the top of the roof:

"FREE AT LAST, FREE AT LAST, THANK GOD ALMIGHTY WE ARE FREE AT LAST".
