Brigadier-General Kunle Togun, former Chairman of Amotekun, Oyo State, has revealed that Fulani herdsmen see Nigeria as an inheritance from Allah and are violently trying to grab it.

Speaking when he appeared on the Edward Obilo podcast, Togun lamented the nonchalant attitude displayed by the past administration led by former President Muhammadu Buhari concerning insecurity.

The general also revealed his role in using Amoteun to protect the Southwest region from bandits and Fulani herdsmen.

He said, "There was an influx of these Fulani herdsmen and I was shouting, I gave a lecture somewhere and I quoted Abache, he said if you are fighting security and it lasts more than four weeks, the government is behind it. The Federal Government was behind the influx of Fulani herdsmen to the Southern part. They call them Fulani herdsmen, some of them don't even have cows but they were coming fully armed with AK-47. That time, everybody was complaining. At that time, the Federal Government announced that everybody should submit their weapons to the police.

"There was a meeting in Kano by the Fulani National Movement (FUNAM) in their community about six years ago, that Allah had given them the land of Nigeria as an inheritance, and that they had told all Fulani in West Africa and Central Africa to start coming to Nigeria to take over what Allah had given to them as inheritance, and that when they are coming, they should come fully armed because that's the only language Nigerians understand, violence. It's in their communique. All that time, people were shouting but Buhari didn't say a word. But when people challenged him on why those herdsmen were carrying Ak-47, he said they were using them to protect their cows. That's very false. When Buhari who has a close relationship with the Bishop of Canterbury went to the UK during one of his periods of treatment, he told the bishop that it was not Fulani herdsmen killing people but some group trained and armed by Gadaffi that infiltrated the Fulani herdsmen."

Togun reminded Buhari of his military training which says when foreigners step into Nigeria with weapons, the military is to hunt them down like rabbits and eliminate them.

He further stated, "Who are the people doing the killing? Who are those doing the banditry? The entire Yoruba land is occupied by them as I am talking to you. I did everything in Amotekun to tackle them but I didn't have cooperation from the Oyo State Government and the governor... The entire Ibarapa and Okeogun are saturated with these people. They are coming out and kidnapping people and taking ransom.

"The only thing we can do is that the government up to the federal level should go for people who will tell them the truth and they will follow the truth. The truth is that there is an invasion. It is only the government that can stop them, The military is trying now because they gave them the assignment but security is a military matter. But in Nigeria, we handed over security to the police which only detects, identifies, combat and prosecutes crime."

The general then revealed why he was not successful at the time he led the Amotekun in Oyo State.

"I was not because I was not allowed to operate. Amotekun needs automatic guns. It is there in the law that the state government can apply to the IGP to approve weapons for Amotekun but the IGP will not do it," he said.

With the Buhari era gone and Nigeria now being led by a Yoruba man, President Bola Tinubu, the general said things could change "if he gets people who will tell him the truth and give him the advice on how to handle it."

He also revealed that it is not the military bombings in the Northwest that are to blame for the influx of bandits in the Southwest, adding that the bandits were already in the region before the bombings started.
