Seun Kuti, an Afrobeats singer, has raised concerns about the impact of journalists in Nigeria and their approach to uncovering hidden details or information about events in the country.

During a social media live session, Kuti described Rufai Oseni, co-anchor of Arise Television Morning Show, as a mouthpiece for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He claimed that Oseni has never spoken the truth and labelled him as an opposition journalist.

The Grammy Award nominee said this while lamenting the failure of journalists to conduct investigations. He mentioned receiving numerous messages from people complaining about Nigerian banks.

Kuti stressed that if Nigeria had reputable journalists, investigations could have been carried out to uncover the truth about the banks and people’s money.

He pointed out that even Ghana has investigative journalists such as Anas Aremeyaw Anas, who works for BBC African Eye.

When a follower mentioned David Hundeyin as an investigative journalist for Nigeria, Kuti dismissed the claim. He stated that Hundeyin is a paid puppet journalist who writes what opposition parties tell him.

Seun Kuti said, “That’s why they run from Rufai. Which yeye Rufai, run from who? Is that one a journalist? You people should not be saying rubbish here. That one is a political journalist. opposition journalist. PDP mouthpiece. That is what they do at Arise TV. They have no time for the truth. When Jonathan was there, what were they saying?

The owner of Arise right now, Nduka, isn’t it the case he was given an oil well to? How many exposes have they done on it, at Arise? You people should know what a journalist in Nigeria. All these people don’t care about the truth. They cannot ask those questions. Everybody is there reading their script.

How many journalists have done an expose? How come there are no investigative journalists who have entered these banks to let us know what is happening to our money. Simple journalism work, all these stories will come out, everybody will know the truth. Simple investigative journalism works into Nigeria banks. Where are all the investigative journalists? Even Ghana has one, the guy who works for the BBC, Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Is it the whites that will do investigative journalism for us in Nigeria? Nigerian journalists are afraid of a general.

Who is mentioning David Hundeyin? Anybody who mentions David Hundeyin I will remove that person. Obviously, you’re more stupid than I thought. You people don’t know what journalism is. That one is a paid pen, a pen that is paid to write. It is what the opposition is giving him, is what he is writing. He had no truth in his mouth. Hundeyin has never spoken the truth in his life before, never in his life. Is he a journalist? Once they just bring a sensationalism to you, you don’t care what the story is about, or what the story wants to achieve. You are there playing the script of other people. A paid puppet writer.”
