Trump sidelining Africa is for the best – Moghalu

President of the United States of America Donald Trump President of the United States of America Donald Trump

Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Kingsley Moghalu, has reacted to the assertion of people saying, “What Trump’s presidency means for Africa”.

He stated that being sidelined by the newly elected United States President, Donald Trump, is exactly what Africa needs.

In a post shared on his X page on Sunday, January 27, 2025, the ex-CBN Deputy Governor believes it is time for Africa to take its destiny into its own hands and chart its own course.

“Being sidelined by Trump is exactly what Africa needs. We need to wake up and stop moaning about what Trump 'means for Africa’.

“Africa needs to take its destiny into its own hands and chart its own course. Just tired of the ‘what Trump means for Africa’ discourse of dependency,” Moghalu posted on X.

Nigerians took to his comment section to agree with his stance

@ObedAsiegbu: I completely agree with this perspective, Sir. I fully support
@POTUS and his decision regarding Africa. This is exactly what we need as a continent, to take responsibility for our own destiny rather than continuing to rely heavily on the West.

It’s time for Africa to stand on its own feet and move away from the dependency on foreign aid, which often creates a cycle of reliance. Instead, we must focus on building equitable partnerships and negotiating fair business deals that allow us to utilize our resources and talents to their fullest potential.

By fostering self-reliance, promoting innovation, and ensuring responsible leadership, Africa can assert its place on the global stage, not as a recipient of aid, but as a valuable partner in trade and development. This shift will not only strengthen our economies but also restore the dignity and pride of our people. The future of Africa lies in our ability to take ownership of our progress, and this is a step in the right direction.

@spinniwil: I'm so happy someone has to say this. Imagine waking up someday expecting someone else to take up your responsibility.

@dammygtnet: Like seriously, I love it. Let the African leaders look inwardly and start behaving like humans! Let them develop their countries!!

@johnyemeka: Fully agree. Africa’s future shouldn’t hinge on external validation or policies from foreign leaders. It’s time to focus on homegrown solutions, strengthen regional partnerships, and invest in our own potential. Dependency narratives only hold us back.

@VNUwaifo: Many of the same people shouting what ‘Trump means for Africa’ today, will blame ‘western interference’ for all our woes tomorrow.
It’s the epitome of laziness and endless blame shifting.
Time to turn our gaze inwards as most of our problems, and solutions, are at ‘home’.

@ebiliekwe: We need to focus on what Africans mean for Africa. I encourage our diasporan communities to keep doing more at home. Be involved in education, healthcare and politics.
