Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, has questioned the former Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi's plan to retire as a teacher in his hometown.

The former Anambra State governor, while teaching final-year students of Dennis Memorial Grammar School in Onitsha to mark the International Day of Education, stated that he will retire to Onitsha as a secondary school teacher to inspire students.

He said, “I was just passing by when I decided to mark the International Day of Education here with you. I told myself there was need for me to come here and speak to students.

I also know that tomorrow will mark the 100 years of existence of this school, so I came to be with you.

Education is the most important thing in your life. It is the most important capital, equipment that you need to be successful. That you are here is a sign that you’re already a success.

I’m here to encourage you, you are acquiring the best and some of you are potential governors and presidents and you must take your education seriously.

In this school in 1970, I was at the gate here to salute General Gowon who visited, and joined other children to sing for him, but through education I was able to grow to the point where I sat with him on the same table and made decisions.

I hope to retire to Onitsha someday, and take up a teaching job to inspire children,” Obi said.

Obi’s statement generated mixed reactions from Nigerians. While some praised his decision, others criticised him.

Reno Omokri dismissed his claim, saying it is a false plan of the presidential candidate.

The controversial social media commentator stated that Peter Obi failed to build a nursery, primary or secondary school while he was governor for eight years in Anambra State.

He wrote on his X page, “Peter Obi, a man who did not build a single nursery, primary or secondary school or university during his eight-year tenure as Governor of Anambra, now says he wants to retire to Onitsha as a secondary school teacher. If education was so important to him, why did he not build schools when he had the authority and opportunity to do so? Especially as the incumbent Governor, Charles Soludo, recently revealed that 77 communities in Anambra state have no public schools.

Peter Obi's new promise is likely to end up like his old promise to sue Peoples Gazette for libel over the publication of the Yes Daddy audio where Mr. Obi plotted to unleash "religious war" on the Muslim Ummah.”
