UCL: Two teams secure automatic qualification to knockout phase

Two clubs have secured their places in the knockout stages of the new league format of the UEFA Champions League following the conclusion of the first round of matches in the penultimate stage.

Six-time champions Liverpool and five-time winners Barcelona became the first two clubs to secure automatic qualification to the next round.

Liverpool remains the only club with a hundred percent record in this season's UCL campaign after beating Lille 2-1 at Anfield.

Arne Slot's side have won all seven of their matches and sit at the top of the log with 21 points.

Barcelona also made it six wins in a row after beating Benfica 5-4 away in a thrilling encounter at the Estádio da Luz.

Hansi Flick's side, after going down 3-1 in the first half, staged a remarkable comeback to win the game 5-4 in stoppage time.

The victory moves the Catalans to 18 points, putting them in second place behind Liverpool.
