The Lagos State Taskforce has confiscated 59 motorcycles in its latest enforcement of the Okada ban in the state.
The Okada ban instituted by the state government restricts commercial motorcyclists to certain areas in the state.
Those who flouted the restriction were on Monday apprehended and their motorcycles confiscated by operatives of the taskforce.
The taskforce carried out enforcement in Oshodi-Apapa, Mile 2, Bagagry, Cele-Ikotun, 1st and 2nd rainbow, and Apple Junction/Roundabout areas of the state.
In 2022, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, ordered a total ban on the activities of commercial motorcyclists in six local government areas.
He listed the LGAs to include Surulere, Ikeja, Apapa, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, and Eti Osa.
He said, “After a critical review of our restriction on Okada activities in the first six Local Government Areas where we restricted them on February 1, 2020, we have seen that the menace has not abated. We are now directing a total ban on Okada activities across the highways and bridges within these six Local Government and their Local Council Development Areas, effective from June 1, 2022."
