Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni believes Arsenal will need to sign a new striker if they are to challenge Liverpool for the Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta's side came from a goal down to beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 in the North London Derby at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

Spurs skipper Son Heung-min gave the away side the lead in the 25th minute before the Gunners turned the game on its head, courtesy of a goal from Leandro Trossard and an own goal from Dominic Solanke.

The victory means Mikel Arteta's side has closed the gap on Liverpool at the top of the Premier League to four points, with Liverpool having a game in hand.

Aiyegbeni believes Arsenal will need to bolster their attack to stand a chance of competing with Arne Slott's side.

“We’ve seen in the past few seasons — last year, two years ago, and three years ago — Arsenal putting pressure on Manchester City. Right now, City aren’t in the best form; they’re struggling.

“For Arsenal (to win the league), it’s just a matter of getting a striker. Once they do, I believe they can push Liverpool all the way to the end.”
