Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised President Bola Tinubu to ensure that Nigerian youths are gainfully employed and that the educational sector is well funded.
Obasanjo made these remarks on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, during a speech at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso, Oyo state at the 70th birthday celebration of the university's vice chancellor, Oludele Ojediran.
The former president emphasized the need for the government to implement strategic interventions to ensure that the education sector remains a cornerstone of the country's development.
He said, “President Tinubu and the Federal Government must find a means to finance education for its sustainability. Government at all levels must also empower the youths to become providers of job opportunities.”
Obasanjo also praised LAUTECH for its academic excellence and for producing accomplished administrators like Professor Adeyemi and Ojediran, who both served as vice-chancellors at Bells University, owned by Obasanjo.
The former president advocated for education to be funded for service rather than for profit, expressing his dedication to sustaining the country's educational legacy.
