The former governor of Sokoto State, Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, has officially announced that he will be stepping down from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This decision is to allow him to focus on a new project designed to empower young Nigerians.

In a statement dated January 8, 2025, directed to the PDP National Chairman, Bafarawa explained his reasons for leaving the party as “profoundly personal and challenging,” yet necessary to align with his fresh vision centered on empowering the youth.

“I have recently dedicated myself to a youth initiative focused on inspiring, empowering, and changing the lives of our young individuals, who are the cornerstone of our nation’s future,” Bafarawa stated in the letter.

Bafarawa mentioned that his choice was made to prevent any possible conflicts of interest as he redirects his attention to this new endeavor.

“My main focus will now be to generate chances for youth empowerment, encourage innovation, and advance principles that will guarantee a thriving future for everyone,” he stated.

Bafarawa expressed his appreciation for the opportunities given to him by the PDP and acknowledged the leadership and members of the party for their contributions to promoting democracy.
