Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has shared the latest updates on Victor Boniface's injury situation.
The 24-year-old has been on the sidelines after sustaining a thigh injury while on international duty with the Super Eagles back in November.
The former Union SG forward was expected to return to action earlier this month, but it appears the striker is still recuperating from his injury and will not be available for the Bundesliga title holders.
Speaking ahead of Leverkusen's clash against Mainz, Alonso disclosed that the Super Eagles striker is on a good path to getting back to full fitness.
“Maybe next week,” he said. “But only maybe. There’s still a question mark. He’s on a good path to feeling better. After that, he’ll need training time.”
Boniface netted eight goals in 15 appearances prior to his injury.
Despite his absence, Die Werkself has been on an impressive run, with Patrik Schick slotting into the role perfectly.
Boniface's return will be a major headache for Xabi Alonso as he will need to make a decision on who to start upfront for the club.
