A video has sparked controversy showing arrested All Progressives Congress (APC) loyalists of the impeached Speaker of the Lagos House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, singing “Bola, On Your Mandate We Shall Stand”.
The arrested loyalists were in a black maria when they started singing Tinubu’s campaign song.
This incident occurred shortly after Obasa was impeached as Speaker of the Lagos Assembly and his deputy, Mojisola Meranda, was elected as the first female Speaker.
On Monday, January 13, 2025, lawmakers impeached Obasa for alleged gross misconduct, abuse of office, corruption, and financial mismanagement.
Obasa was reported to have exhibited unruly behaviour, which President Bola Tinubu noticed during a meeting convened to address the crisis in the state assembly.
President Tinubu also reportedly intervened to resolve the alleged rift between Governor Sanwo-Olu and Obasa. The closed-door meeting took place at Tinubu's private residence in Ikoyi and was attended by a GAC member and the state’s deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat.
Tinubu allegedly criticised Obasa for his lack of respect for the governor's office, warning that his actions could damage the party’s reputation in the state.
The video of the men singing has generated significant reactions on social media.
