The Oniru of Iru Kingdom, Oba Abdulwasiu Gbolahan Lawal, has expressed excitement following the swearing in of his sister, Mojisola Miranda, as the first female Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Meranda of Apapa 1 constituency was sworn-in on Monday following the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker.

Reacting, the Oniru of Iru shared on X, "I am thrilled and excited that providence has provided her a bigger platform to serve the good people of Lagos State.

"I pray to Almighty Allah, to give her wisdom, strength and courage to discharge her duties without fear or favour. Amen!"

Obasa was impeached over allegations of misconducts and abuse of office. He is the longest-serving speaker in Lagos.

He's yet to issue a statement on the impeachment as of the time of filing this report.

The impeachment followed a warning he received from President Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Lagos, against disrespecting Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and the office of the governor under whatever guise.

Obasa had thrown a punch in public against Sanwo-Olu when the governor visited the assembly to present the 2025 budget.

His action, which was widely condemned, may not be unconnected to the political turmoil he landed in today.
