The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has announced that the state no longer observes the illegal sit-at-home order instituted by Biafra agitator and self-acclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra, Simon Ekpa.

Governor Mbah made this known to President Bola Tinubu during his visit to the Southeast State on Saturday, January 4, 2025, to commission some projects undertaken since his assumption of office.

The sit-at-home protests carried out in the southeast reportedly claimed the lives of some residents as individuals, said to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), launched attacks on people found on the streets.

The alleged Biafra armies were also reported to have attacked and killed some police personnel during their battles in various towns and communities.

Expressing his excitement, Governor Mbah revealed that Enugu State has stopped participating in the sit-at-home following the intervention of the Nigerian army and police operatives.

He said, “When we assumed office, we had the illegal sit-at-home. This was a situation where some gang of criminals would dictate to us the days of the week we should sit at home and days of the week we should work. We did not find it acceptable or even excusable.

So, we immediately made very consequential pronouncements and with your support and unwavering commitment of the security agencies; the police, the DSS, the army. Your excellency, I am pleased to announce that we no longer observe the illegal sit-at-home.

Our people go to work everyday of the week and we no longer take orders from non-sit actors. And we have been through a number of projects which your excellency has graciously commissioned.”
