Arise Television co-host, Rufai Oseni, has called for the removal of the immunity clause for politicians who hold public office.
In a series of posts shared on his social media page, Oseni stated that politicians have the same behaviour. He believes that they act like saviours until they get that position and then turn into oppressors.
Oseni pointed out that Nigeria plummeted quickly in the last ten years of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Recall that the immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari, belonging to the APC party, led Nigeria for eight years, and the country was faced with several challenges ranging from economic instability, insecurity, poor exchange rates, and fuel price hikes, among many other issues.
As President Tinubu, who is also part of the APC, assumed office, the country’s challenges worsened. Hunger became intense, the cost of food and fuel increased drastically.
In response to the issues Nigerians have faced, Oseni stated, “All the politicians are the same. The savior of today might be the oppressor of tomorrow. At some point people shouted Sai Baba.
Nigeria plummeted quickly under the last 10 years of the APC.
Politicians are just concerned about their own pockets. It’s time to remove immunity clause.”
Reacting to his post, Nigerians agreed with Oseni’s stance on the removal of immunity, saying it is long overdue.
@IamTheIroko: No the problem is not immunity clause the problem is for the electorate to vote right.
@OyokunyiOkon: The removal of IMMUNITY clause is long over due.
@Northerner0: Everyone is selfish these days; people only look out for their own interests, not just politicians. There are very few who genuinely have a good heart!
@motoks2: I concur with you entirely. Politicians have frequently used the immunity provision as a shield to avoid responsibility. For governance to be transparent and honest, leaders must be held to the same standards as the general public.
@ALIYUMUSABABA1: Immunity is only for President, vice President, Governors and Deputy Governors
@YusuffAzeez10: And who will remove the immunity clause??........ Politicians!!! So, will a thief make laws prohibiting stealing? Not possible!!!
@Next_of_kin3991: 2025 we no hear anything it either they do the peoples will or we enter the street
@PwealDr: Immunity clause was meant to protect leaders from frivolous distractions, not to shield them from accountability. It's time we rethink it—leadership should be about service, not sanctuary.
