Social commentator, Isaac Fayose has disclosed the theme for the new year. Fayose in a post on his Instagram has opined that the theme for 2025 should be "no do pass yourself" meaning don't do beyond your abilities.

The yearly themes have become a norm for Nigerians.

In 2024, the theme for the year that defined the year for many Nigerians was "No gree for anybody" to mean "refusing to give up or be intimidated by anyone."

In a post on his Instagram page, he wrote: "2024- No gree for anybody. 2025- No do pass yourself"

The post has generated mixed reactions.

In Nigeria, a country with over 200 million people, citizens have a unique way of expressing themselves through distinct words and phrases.

Over time, slang has played significant roles in songs, movies, other works of art and daily conversations.

Defined by the Cambridge Dictionary as ‘very informal language that is usually spoken rather than written, used especially by particular groups of people’, slangs are often used by people to press home their points or emphasise their arguments.

On many occasions, such slang has also made its way to works of art and even mainstream lingo.

In 2024, many Nigerian slang became popular, showing off the country’s lively and creative culture.
