Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, recently visited SAN Afe Babalola and Dele Farotimi at the Ekiti State prison where Farotimi is currently held.
His visit comes after Farotimi’s arrest following a petition filed by Afe Babalola alleging defamation.
According to reports, security operatives arrested Farotimi at his office in Lagos and transferred him to Ekiti State, where he was detained for several days.
This incident has sparked widespread concern and condemnation from Nigerians. Many individuals expressed disappointment in Afe Babalola’s decision to involve police in settling a personal dispute rather than seeking legal action.
In response to the backlash and plans for a protest by Omoyele Sowore demanding Farotimi’s release, Obi travelled from Lagos to Ekiti to visit Babalola and address the prevailing issue.
He was accompanied by Professor Smaranda Olarinde, the Vice Chancellor of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD).
He also visited the Ekiti State prison where Farotimi is detained, awaiting his team to finalise the N50 million bail bond granted by a magistrate court.
Photos of Obi’s visit have garnered various reactions from Nigerians, particularly from supporters of Peter Obi, known as Obidients.
