Former President Goodluck Jonathan has commended Ghanaians for the peaceful atmosphere ahead of Ghana's elections.

During an interview at the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in Accra, the capital, he praised the process and congratulated Ghanaians for consolidating democracy on the continent.

He did, however, note that there was still room for improvement and expects the challenges experienced in 2022 to be corrected in this poll.

"I am pleased with the processes going on, and I must praise Ghanaians for consolidating democracy not just in West Africa but in Africa. The country is doing well. Yes, there is room for improvement because, in the other elections, there were issues. I believe that at the end of this election, there will be no issues, and that everybody will be happy with the outcome," former President Goodluck Jonathan says.

As part of the West African Elders Forum (WAEF) monitoring team, the former president and his colleagues are in the country to observe the electoral process to ensure that there are no crises in the election.

Jonathan, who has assumed the stature of an elder statesman, refused to compare Ghana's election to the polls that brought President Bola Tinubu to power in March 2023.

"No, I won't compare the Ghanaian elections and the Nigerian elections, that is not the right thing to do," he told journalists.
