Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju has alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is a political arm of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Adeyanju opined that the electoral body has never been independent as its name suggests.
He disclosed this while featuring on a podcast by Glitch Africa Studio, The Honest Bunch.
He further advised President Bola Tinubu on ways to ensure the independence of INEC to guarantee fairness in the country's electoral processes.
"INEC is a political party and the current INEC is APC. Everyone in INEC knows this including the chairman, Mahmood. If you give INEC water, they can turn it to wine. There is nothing INEC can not do. What INEC cannot do doesnt exist."
"I have gotten to the point where I say that INEC is a political party. Let us remove the independent from their name and call them National Electoral Commission (NEC)."
"Let us agree that INEC is partisan. Now, to have a credible election with a partisan umpire, this is how to do it. You tell PDP to bring 10 people to make national commissioners, you tell APC to bring 10 to make national commmissioners, you tell Labour Party to bring 10 to make national commissioners, when you get the 30 of them, you now tell the President to make a national chairman out of the options."
