Former Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has lamented the recent report by UNICEF which shows that more children are out of school compared to other regions in Nigeria.

The UNICEF report indicated that 15.23 million children were out-of-school in Northern Nigeria, while in the South it was discovered that 2.58 million children are out of school.

Taking to his X page, Ahmad wrote, “Good morning, Arewa!

According to a UNICEF report, there are 15.23 million out-of-school children in Northern Nigeria, while the South has only 2.58 million.

• North West: 8.04 million
• North East: 5.06 million
• North Central: 2.12 million

• South West: 1.15 million
• South South: 769,000
• South East: 664,000

This is a serious educational crisis that needs urgent attention. Stakeholders across the North, from government officials, traditional leaders, NGOs, volunteers, and members of our communities, must unite with determination to secure a better future for our region.

Let’s liberate the younger and next generation from the cycle of poverty and limited opportunities by ensuring they all have access to education.

Kindly share as widely as possible!''

An X user queried him about what the Buhari-led government which he served in did to reduce the statistics in the North.

In response, Bashir stated that it is not the responsibility of the Federal government to ensure students are in primary schools but the state government.
