The Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command has announced the arrest of House of Representative member for Aba North and South Alex Mascot Ikwechegh for assaulting a delivery man in Abuja.

Spokesperson for the Abuja command, Josephine Adeh, revealed this after numerous calls for Ikwechegh’s arrest.

She mentioned that the lawmaker is currently in the custody of the Maitama Police Station undergoing questioning.

This comes after the delivery man named Stephen Abuwatseya made a report to the command.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that Mr. Abuwatseya was delivering a package to Hon. Ikwegh when a dispute arose concerning the method of delivery. During this altercation, Mr. Abuwatseya was reportedly physically assaulted.

“The FCT Police Command expresses grave concern over Hon. Ikwegh’s dismissive attitude toward the office of the Inspector General of Police following the incident.

“After allegedly slapping the victim, he reportedly remarked with contempt, ‘You can go ahead and call the Inspector General of Police,’ demonstrating a troubling disregard for the authority of law enforcement.

“Currently, the suspect is at the Maitama Police Station undergoing questioning,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police in the FCT, Olatunji Disu, called for a thorough investigation into the matter.

“The Command is committed to conducting an impartial investigation and ensuring justice in all cases. Upon completion of the investigation, appropriate legal action will be taken.”

A video of the House of Rep member slapping a man and threatening to lock him up in the generator room as well as make him disappear caused a stir on social media, with many expressing disgust at the behaviour of the lawmaker.

It was seen how Alex fumed at the driver, who suggested that he meet him at his car to collect his parcel. The lawmaker who felt disrespected struck the driver with his hands, asking if he knew who he was.

Upon watching the video, Nigerians called on the police to arrest the House of Rep member and ensure he is punished to serve as a deterrent to others.
