A video of Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, meeting the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Governor Abba Kyari Yusuf at the Kano International Airport is making the rounds.

In the video, the three politicians shake hands and exchange pleasantries. They struck up a conversation that led to moments of laughter.

When asked about his visit to Kano, Peter Obi responded that he had visited Jigawa following the fuel tanker explosion that tragically claimed the lives of over 170 young people in the northern state.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. According to reports, the accident happened at around 11pm when a tanker transporting fuel from neighbouring Kano State swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle, causing the petrol to spill out of the tanker.

Passersby and residents rushed to collect the spilled fuel with bottles on the ground and through nearby drains.

It was reported that the driver, who managed to escape the crash, tried to warn the crowd to leave the area for safety but they refused to listen.

As a result, flames engulfed the people who had gathered near the tanker, as well as those who had arrived to assist them.

Obi, who is known for his philanthropic work, visited the state to show his support for the people affected by the tragedy. Upon his departure, he met with Kano Governor Abba Kyari and NNPP presidential candidate Kwankwaso.

The video of the men sharing laughter sparked various reactions from Nigerians on social media. Many praised Obi for his good deeds and his ability to connect with politicians.
