A woman was caught on camera picking crushed tomatoes and pepper from the roadside near a gutter.

The voice behind the recording expressed dismay at the lengths Nigerians go to in order to survive the hardships in the country.

She fumed at the severity of the country’s economic situation, noting that people who can no longer afford to buy food from markets are resorting to picking food from the ground.

The woman explained that the crushed tomatoes were from a truck that spilled its cargo. She mentioned that if the country were in better shape, people would have to pick tomatoes and peppers from the dirty ground to eat at home.

Nigeria has been grappling with economic hardship, with many struggling to survive due to rising fuel prices, high food costs, inflation, the devaluation of the naira, and other crises.
