Lionel Messi starred as world champions Argentina thumped Bolivia 6-0 in the South American 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires.
The Inter Miami star netted a hat-trick and provided two assists as Lionel Scaloni's side cruised past Bolivia to consolidate their lead in the qualifiers standings.
It was the former Barcelona star's 10th international hat-trick, the same number bagged by his long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo.
The goals also took the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner's international goals tally to 112 as La Albiceleste continued their unbeaten run in the World Cup qualifiers.
In a post-match reaction, the 37-year-old stated that he is enjoying the last moments of his time with the national team as his retirement looms.
“It is very nice to play here feeling the affection of the Argentina fans,” Messi said.
“It makes me emotional to listen to how they shout my name. We all enjoy this connection with the fans and we love playing at home.”
Speaking on his future with the national team, the Inter Miami captain said:
“I didn’t set any date or deadline about my future. I’m just enjoying all this. I am more emotional than ever and taking all the love from the people because I know these can be my last games.”
