The House of Representatives has urged the Federal Government to summoned the Libyan ambassador to Nigeria to explain the inhumane treatment meted out to players and staff of the Super Eagles by Libyan authorities.
chairman House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Ahmadu also asked the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to make a formal complaint to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The incident was raised as a matter of urgency by Ahmadu.
The house further commented on the NFF for boycotting the game which was originally scheduled to take place on Tuesday, October 15 (today).
The Suoer Eagles were left stranded at the Al Abaq Airport for over 13 hours without access to necessities like food, water, or a place to rest after their flight was diverted from Benghazi.
The situation generated an uproar on social and traditional media as photos and videos of the players sleeping and seating on benches went viral.
The Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, described the conditions at Al Abaq Airport as “disgraceful,” accusing Libyan authorities of deliberately playing “mind games” by revoking their landing permit and leaving the team stranded without basic amenities.
