Co-host of Jasiri on News Central, Tolulope Adeler-Balogun, recently flared up on live television while lamenting the sufferings of many Nigerians.
She expressed heartbreak over the economic situation that has left many citizens struggling to meet their daily needs.
During a panel discussion, Adeler-Balogun mentioned that the current price of fuel is outrageous and demanded that Nigerians show concern.
Sharing her displeasure before walking out of the show, Adeler-Balogun said, “I barely drive to the office, so most times a full tank will last me a week and a half to a few days. So every two weeks, you want me to be paying N60,000 to N70,000.”
“These days when it gets to half, I am trying to buy more because I can’t predict what may happen in Nigeria. I simply can’t understand why we are in a country where this is a natural resource that comes from.”
“NNPC is selling fuel for N998, but I bought it for N1050. How many of us have the time to queue at NNPC? We are just trying to make ends meet. Nigerians the ends are this far apart right now. Where is the middle ground? I don’t see a middle class anymore. My economic status has changed. If this is how I am feeling, I can imagine people lower on the economic scale right now. What do you want Nigerians?
I can say I can afford this, but what about other people? What do you want?” Adeler-Balogun said.
Nigerian actress and media personality, Lolo also narrated how her friend and their family share two eggs between a family of five in order to sustain the one crate for a long period of time.
She also explained that she and her family have been forced to reduce to quantity of food they eat as a result of the high cost of food.
Their frustration comes following the announcement by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company (NNPC) that fuel prices will increase from about N905 to N1050 on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
This increment comes at a time when Nigerians are facing severe hardship while President Bola Tinubu is on vacation in the United Kingdom for two weeks.
