Hardship is pushing me to consider prostitution – Single mother cries out

Aina Gold, a single mother, has shared her struggles and expressed that she is on the verge of turning to prostitution due to her difficult situation.

Speaking during the Fearless In October protest at Ikeja Underbridge in Lagos on Independence Day, she highlighted the dire state of the country.

Aina expressed her dissatisfaction with her living conditions. Despite the challenges she faces with her family, she is determined not to resort to prostitution.

The single mother, who has an 11-year-old child, revealed that her daily meal now consists of gari with kulikuli and sachet water, which have become expensive.

Her hopes were shattered after President Tinubu took over from Muhammadu Buhari and implemented policies that have worsened the country’s situation.

“I am disappointed and unhappy with the life we are living. But I’m persevering; otherwise, I would have turned to prostitution for survival.

“Gari, kulikuli, and sachet water are now very expensive. What is happening? This suffering is too much.

“We thought things would improve with our own man as President.”

Reflecting on the days of Covid-19 and the EndSARS protest, she noted that times were tough but manageable. However, life has become exceedingly challenging for her and many others.

“We have been suffering since the days of ‘No Cash.’ Things were not this bad during COVID-19. Even during the ENDSARS protests, it wasn’t this terrible.

“This suffering is too much, and we are tired of persevering. I can no longer send money to my mother. Goods disappear as soon as you buy them.”

“I used to have a big shop, but now all I have is a makeshift stall.

“If I lacked discipline, I would have become a prostitute by now. The problem started during the ‘No Cash’ era, and it’s only gotten worse. There’s a lot more to say, but we’re tired.”
