Protesters demonstrating against harsh economic realities in Abuja were attacked by police operatives on Tuesday morning, according to SaharaReporters.

The protests, known as #FearlessInOctober, were aimed at addressing hardships and poverty in various parts of the country.

According to SaharaReporters, the police shot tear gas canisters and ammunition at the peaceful protesters who were expressing their discontent with the hardships caused by the administration led by President Bola Tinubu.

Video footage showed protesters running for safety as the police fired on them in the Jabi, Utako areas of the FCT.

In Lagos, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale, assured protesters participating in the #FearlessInOctober movement that they would be safe while exercising their fundamental human rights.

Olawale stated in an interview with Arise TV that he had met with protest leaders who guaranteed that the protests would be conducted lawfully. The protesters gathered in Ikeja to begin the protest.

Olawale explained, "We had plans in place before this protest, and those plans are now in effect. The area is peaceful because we have been here since 3 am. The protesters approached us for assurance of their safety, and I assured them that they are safe as long as they abide by the law."

He added, "I held a meeting with all Civil Society Organizations in my office, and many are present here. We agreed that there would be no disruption of law and order. If they keep their end of the agreement, there should be no problems today."
