Dino Melaye, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says he can't afford to maintain his luxurious cars due to the rising cost of fuel.

The former governorship candidate, in a post on his Instagram page, revealed that the increasing cost of petrol has made his Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Mercedes G63 useless at the moment.

His statement comes after the Major Energies Marketers Association of Nigeria announced that the landing cost of Premium Motor Spirit, also known as petrol, was N1,117 per liter as of July 16, 2024.

"The way the fuel economy is going, I think I need to sell my cars because I can't maintain them. Fuel for N1000 and something where will I get that? So all the Ferrari, Lamborghini, G63, the moment you accelerate, 4 liters is gone. I can not survive it. Even my Harley Davidson, the moment I spark it, 2 liters is gone. In this Tinubu economy, I can't try it," Melaye said in the video.

According to the association, the landing cost of diesel was N1,157/litre, while that of aviation fuel was N1,127/litre.

The PUNCH reports that the N1,117 landing cost of petrol is far above the pump price of the product in Nigeria.
