Victor Osimhen’s latest move to the Turkish Super Lig has sent shockwaves across the football world.
In a surprise turn of events, the 25-year-old has joined Galatasaray on a season-long loan from Napoli after his widely reported moves to Chelsea and Al Ahli collapsed on transfer deadline day.
The failed transfers, which resulted in a strained relationship between Osimhen and Napoli, led to the player’s expulsion from the first-team squad.
The former Capocannoniere winner was also stripped of his iconic number 9 shirt, which was handed to new signing Romelu Lukaku.
With the transfer window still open in Turkey, Galatasaray showed interest in the former Lille striker, reaching an agreement with Napoli for his loan move on Monday, September 2.
The club is expected to cover the entirety of Osimhen’s €9/10 million annual wages.
Osimhen’s release clause has also been slashed from €130 million to €75 million, which will allow the Super Eagles striker to leave on a permanent deal in January if another club wants him.
Reacting to Osimhen’s surprise move to Turkey, former Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan took to social media to express his shock at the sudden turn of events for the Super Eagles striker.
Commenting on Fabrizio Romano’s announcement of Osimhen’s transfer, the 33-year-old wrote, “Wow…Crazy.”
