Nigerians are sore losers – Gov Dapo Abiodun speaks on nationwide protest

Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun has described Nigerians as sore losers after the first day of the ten-day nationwide protests against hunger and bad governance.

On Thursday, August 1, 2024, Nigerians across the states took to the streets to protest the economic hardship facing many citizens.

The protesters are demanding a solution to the increase in fuel prices, high cost of living, food price hikes, an end to corruption and insecurity among many other challenges.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Gov Abiodun lamented the decision of Nigerians to embark on a protest and call for the resignation of President Bola Tinubu following the crisis that has befallen his administration since taking office.

He urged those who want a regime change to wait for the next election in 2027 rather than sponsor faceless and leaderless protests.

According to him, Nigerians are not the only country facing difficulties. He noted that there is a need to dialogue and work together for the betterment of the nation.

Gov Dapo said, “The majority of Nigerians voted for President Bola Tinubu. He won the election. He majorly won that election and that says one thing. Those who want him to be president are far more than those who didn’t want him to be president. The problem we have today is that Nigerians are sore losers. Rather than accept the fact that if you want a regime change, wait until 2027. Don’t begin to sponsor faceless, leaderless protests under the disguise that you are dissatisfied.

The reality is not peculiar to Nigeria alone. There was a protest in Ghana yesterday, there is a protest in London today. The medicine for a headache is not to cut off the head. We must all work together, join hands together and speak to each other. Let’s us have a dialogue that is constructive knowing you have a responsive administration.”
