The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has reportedly agreed on personal terms with a new Super Eagles head coach, OwnGoalNigeria reports.

The role has been vacant since Finidi George resigned from his role as head coach for the national team following Nigeria's disappointing performance against South Africa and Benin Republic in the FIFA World qualifiers last month.

The 2023 AFCON finalists were held to a 1-1 draw at home before losing 2-1 away to Benin Republic in Abidjan, putting a dagger in the heart of Nigeria's World Cup hopes.

In a new development, the NFF is reportedly considering hiring a foreign coach to fill the vacancy created by Finidi George's departure.

NFF chief Ibrahim Gusau has reportedly disclosed to reporters in France that the federation has shortlisted three candidates for the role.

According to OwnGoalNigeria, the three coaches shortlisted by the NFF are former Mali coach Eric Chelle, current Philippines coach Tom Saintfeit and Steve McClaren.

The report added that the preferred candidate has submitted his squad list for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers clash against Benin Republic in September.
