Nigerians have taken to social media to praise the women’s basketball team, D'Tigress, for their impressive 75-62 victory over Australia in a thrilling Group B opener at the 2024 Olympic Games.

The reigning African champions started their campaign on a high note, dominating the first half with a 41-28 lead.

However, Australia staged a comeback in the third quarter, closing the gap with a 19-10 run.

Despite the comeback attempt by Australia, Nigeria regained control with a spectacular performance in the fourth quarter.

D'Tigress outpaced the Opals, ranked third in the world, with a 24-15 run in the final period to secure the win.

Nigeria will face France on Thursday, August 1, 2024, in their second game of the Olympics.

A victory in this match would see them advance to the knockout phase, while Australia will look to bounce back from the defeat in their next game against Canada.
