Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has high praise for Nigerian striker Muhamed Tijani, urging him to be a nightmare for defenders in the upcoming season.

Tijani, 23, joined Plymouth Argyle on a season-long loan from Slavia Prague last month and is eager to make an immediate impact at the Championship club.

The 6'3" tall striker impressed in Plymouth's 5-1 pre-season friendly win over Cheltenham Town, scoring a brace that delighted head coach Rooney.

"We know he's not the finished article, and that's on us to work with him and improve his game," Rooney said.

"But what he has is a great work ethic, he's always in good positions to score, and he's a handful for defenders. I'm pleased he got two goals, and I think he'll be a real threat this season."

Plymouth Argyle narrowly avoided relegation last season, finishing just a point above the drop zone in the EFL Championship.

With Tijani on board, they're hoping for a better campaign this time around.

The Nigerian striker previously represented the Flying Eagles at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, helping them reach the round of 16 before losing to Senegal.
