Doyin Okupe, the former spokesperson for former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has publicly admitted that he placed a $20,000 wager with Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, ahead of the presidential elections in 2015.
Okupe, who was part of the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan was confident that his principal would win the presidential elections against former President Muhammadu Buhari. This confidence led him to bet with Momodu, who had told him that Jonathan was going to lose the election.
In a post amid his social media fist-fight with Dele Momodu, he wrote; "Finally Dele let me publicly acknowledge and appreciate your generosity in granting me that much appreciated debt forgiveness of $20k. I could not afford it! But truly then, I never imagined we could lose that election. However, man proposes but God Almighty ONLY disposes.
Buhari won the 2015 elections with his All Progressives Congress (APC) party, declaring that the country was "witnessing history."
The 72-year-old former military leader surged ahead as the final ballots were counted, ending an election that saw tens of millions of Nigerians turn out for the closest political contest Africa's biggest economy had ever seen.
Buhari's APC garnered 15.4 million votes versus 13.3 million for President Goodluck Jonathan and the People's Democratic Party (PDP), according to a Reuters tally.
