Former Nigerian presidential aide, Reno Omokri has claimed that he was instrumental in Peter Obi's selection as the vice presidential candidate for Atiku Abubakar in the 2019 general elections.

Omokri, a staunch Atiku ally and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) claimed in a Facebook post on Monday, July 15.

"Even Peter Obi was put on the 2019 PDP ticket by the grace of God using my efforts. And he cannot deny it because I am a meticulous record keeper and keep paper records. Peter Obi does not even believe in the official Labour Party manifesto. He is more politically attuned to us in the PDP," an excerpt of his posts reads after the Republican National Convention (RNC).

He further underscored the need for Nigerians to learn "politics from Trump and Vance saying "There are no permanent friends or enemies in politics. Only permanent interests."

According to him, the former US President Donald Trump picked Ohio Senator James David Vance as his running mate despite the latter being one of his fiercest critics.

JD Vance as he fondly called had once called the party’s presidential candidate, Donald Trump, “American Hitler” saying he’s never a “guy” of the former president.

Posting on Facebook, Omokri wrote: “Former President Trump has just chosen Ohio Senator James David Vance as his running mate. Please fact-check me: Senator Vance is a man who viciously attacked President Trump in the past. He said he was “a never Trump guy”.

“He called Donald Trump an “idiot.”. He urged Americans not to vote for Donald Trump and called Mr. Trump “America’s Hitler.”

“But today, he has been nominated as the vice presidential candidate under Trump and has publicly accepted the nomination.

“I urge everyone to learn politics from Trump and Vance. There are no permanent friends or enemies in politics. Only permanent interest.”
