Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani has approved the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development.

Sani said this would end the acrimony and conflict that has existed in Nigeria for decades. He also described it as a "good idea".

“Federal Ministry of Livestock Development is a good idea. Livestock can now factor into the economic growth of the country instead of being a source of acrimony and territorial conflict,” he wrote on X after President Bola Tinubu made the announcement.

Tinubu while inaugurating the Presidential Committee on Livestock Reforms at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, July 9 announced the creation of the Livestock Development Ministry.

He will head the committee while the former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, EFCC, Attahiru Jega, will be his deputy.

The Committee is expected to propose recommendations aimed at fostering a peaceful co-existence between herders and farmers while ensuring the security and economic well-being of all Nigerians.

Present at the Inauguration were the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume, the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila amongst cabinet members.
