The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced plans to appoint a new technical adviser to support Finidi George, following the Super Eagles' poor start to the FIFA World Cup qualifiers campaign.
Finidi George, who recently took over as head coach from Jose Peseiro failed to secure a win in the June World Cup qualifiers.
The team managed a 1-1 draw against South Africa at home and suffered a 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic.
These results have cast doubts on Nigeria's chances of securing a World Cup ticket, as the three-time African champions are yet to record a win in four qualifying matches.
Currently, Finidi George's side is in 5th position in Group C, with only 3 points after 4 matches.
With six matches remaining in the qualifiers, the 2023 AFCON finalists are four points behind group leaders Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin.
Following an executive committee meeting on Wednesday, June 12, the NFF board decided to hire a technical adviser for the team.
"The executive committee resolved to employ an expatriate Technical Adviser for the Super Eagles in the coming weeks, ahead of the AFCON qualifiers and the remaining FIFA World Cup qualifying matches," read the statement.
Nigeria's next World Cup qualifying match is scheduled against Rwanda in March next year.
