Simon Ekpa criticized Tinubu for changing his stance, sharing an old post where Tinubu asked Nigerians not to condemn IPOB.
Biafra Agitator, Simon Ekpa, criticized President Bola Tinubu following the conflict between the Nigerian military and the Liberation Army of the Indigenous People of Biafra.
In a post shared on his page on Sunday, June 9, 2024, Ekpa posted a screenshot of an article published in September 2017, where Tinubu urged Nigerians not to condemn IPOB.
According to the Biafra Prime Minister, Mandela warned about leaders like Tinubu. He added that such individuals change their voices depending on their position and who they encounter along the way.
He wrote, “This is the type of person Mandela condemned as not supposed to be a leader. They change their principles according to their position and according to who they meet. This was his position in 2017, today he is sending terrorists to kill them.”
Tinubu, who was the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had previously urged Nigerians to listen and understand the agitations of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
He made this known while delivering a keynote speech at the 2017 Annual Dinner of the King's College Old Boys' Association (KCOBA) at King's College in Lagos.
“We must listen to what is being said so that we can determine what is really meant. If over the years, government had delivered on the promise of growth, prosperity, and justice, those calling for such extreme remedies would be but a small fringe of little consequence,” he said.
In 2022, ahead of the presidential election in 2023, Tinubu stated that if elected, his administration would negotiate with agitators, including the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
“We want peace, we will talk to all the agitators, this thing is not done by conflicts,” he said.
Currently, the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who is in the custody of the Department of State Security, was recently denied bail and will face an accelerated trial on a pending seven-count terrorism charge against him.
