Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, the youth wing of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has highly rated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his first year in office. This comes as the president marks one year in office today, May 29.
They also urged the President not to hesitate in sacking any member of the cabinet who is not significantly contributing towards the realization of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
In a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday, the National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, said President Tinubu’s government had been making conscious efforts towards restoring the economic fortunes of the country.
Okwu, who said Tinubu inherited a battered economy, noted that it would not take rocket science to fix the country.
According to him, “as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu government marks one year in office, it is our considered view that he has demonstrated the capacity and the passion to lead this country to the path of progress.
“We are not unaware of the sufferings the masses are facing owing to some policies of the government; however, some of these policies were unavoidable, including fuel subsidy, which was a landmine laid for the present government by the then Buhari administration.
“However, we have seen how the government is steadily trying to revive the dead economy. The total restoration will not happen overnight, but with the determination of the government, we are optimistic that things will soon improve.
“We also want to commend the present government for continuing with some of the projects initiated by the past administration, especially road projects, and initiating new ones. This is very critical to the development of the country.
“Our appeal to Nigerians is to fully cooperate with the government as Mr President and his team navigates the country out of the inherited-quagmire.”
The Igbo youths, however, urged the President to quickly reshuffle his cabinet “by weeding off those whose actions are not aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“There is no time to waste; we urge the President to assess the scorecard of his ministers and take firm decisions in the best interest of the country.
“All those who have not recorded tangible achievements should be sacked.”
While also commending the government for improved security, Okwu urged the government to put more efforts towards security agrarian communities in order to save the populace from food inflation.
