A student from Lead British International School in Gwarimpa, Abuja, has initiated legal action against the institution, filing a lawsuit at a Federal High Court for failing to safeguard her from bullying.

The student, identified as Namitra Bwala, has accused the school of neglecting to prevent the bullying and attempting to conceal the incident.

A widely shared social media video showed Namitra being repeatedly slapped by a peer, sparking significant public outcry.

The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development intervened following the viral spread of the incident, prompting the school to announce an ongoing investigation.

Subsequently, the alleged bully, Maryam Hassan, issued a public apology to Namitra and the general public via a video message.

Namitra's father, Daniel Madu Bwala, dissatisfied with the school's response, has taken legal steps on behalf of his daughter. He alleges that the school's negligence and mishandling of the situation warrant compensation.

Namitra is claiming N505 million in damages from Lead British International School, citing their failure to ensure a secure and supportive educational environment. The sought-after damages comprise N500 million for the school's dereliction of duty in providing protection, N5 million for legal expenses, and a demand for a public apology to be published in two national newspapers.
