Wellington Umoh Bassey is reportedly the first Nigerian man to join the Nigerian army.
He was born in 1918 and passed away in 1995 at the age of 77.
Bassey is on record as having the service number NA 1.
Reacting to his incredible achievement, some Nigerians stated that it was a shame that as a pioneer member of the armed forces, there has not been any monument or structure set up to immortalise him.
Other netizens revealed however that, WU Bassey barracks in Asokoro Abuja,
A road in Uyo and the Barraks at Ibagwa both in Akwa Ibom state were all named after him.
