President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuo-Addo was recently trending after advising other African nations to stop begging the West and spend the money within the continent.
He said, "If we stop being beggars and spend African money inside the continent, Africa will not need to ask for respect from anyone, we will get the respect we deserve. if we make it prosperous as it should be, respect will follow."
Reacting to his comment, Nigerian Senator, Shehu Sani took to his social media to mock the Ghanaian president over his comment after the country received a loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) days later.
Shehu Sani, in an attempt to mock President Akufo-Addo noted that despite his advise to other African leaders, Ghana went ahead to collect a loan from the IMF.
He tweeted; "Ghana’s President is collecting IMF loan with the right hand and using the left hand to warn African Governments against begging the west for money."
His comment did not go down well with some Ghanaian social media users who took to his comment section to descend on the Nigerian Senator.
Ghanaians on Twitter questioned if begging and borrowing are the same, while others decided to school the Senator on the types of countries permitted to go for a loan from the IMF.
Below are some tweets;
So in your native language borrowing is the same as begging abi? I see.

Going to the IMF isn't begging....you must be qualified. Any country can't go to the IMF. What he said are two different things but because you are a politician, you want score political points.SHAME

Any country can't go to IMF bcos they managed themselves well.
Only the mismanaged ones go so don't think like its an achievement getting a bailout from economic prison.
Just wise up!
You’re a kwasia if I say so, what’s the meaning of begging and again explain borrowing?

And you were once a Nigerian Senator and You don't know we all contribute to IMF so if one c'try takes money from a pot they contribute to it doesn't amount to begging? Just don't criticise for the sake of that. Look beyond petty competition and consider the wisdom in his speech.

— Biggbergg (@Biggbergg1) December 15, 2022
You can't compare our economy to that of Nigeria, abeg. It is corruption that has made that country like it is.

Nigeria has a GDP of $397.3B, the 32nd largest in the world. While Ghana has a GDP of only $65.6B, the 73rd largest in the world.
So don't argue on emotions.
